Maps - Digital Data and Local Knowledge

Maps help us to communicate our ideas about places in a visual way that words sometimes cannot.

By using various forms of maps, dialogue about siting wave energy facilities along the Oregon coast can be enriched, by providing robust data about the environmental character of the Oregon coast, its flora and fauna, it people and history, and its economy.

This page provides links to existing mapped information about the Oregon coast and will eventually provide opportunities for additional public participation, by allowing stakeholders the ability to generate their own maps and create features on maps that represent an individuals cognitive understanding of places along the Oregon coast.

PUBLISHED MAPS

Maps of proposed wave energy sites off of the Oregon Coast as of July 2007:

All of the above maps are static cartographic maps. OWARE's idea is to find the coordinates of the exact sites and make these maps GIS interactive, which will allow the site viewers to directly add their comments and knowledge about each proposed site. In that way, we are hoping to develop a truely participatory GIS experience. Stay tuned!
